Queen’s falls from top 15 research universities ranking A recent ranking of the top Canadian research universities saw Queen’s University fall from the top 15. The ranking pulls data from 2022, and is based on the overall sponsored research income of an institution – coming from grants, contracts or contributions from any external source. Given the university closes for the holidays as of Friday, a spokesperson said they would be unable to comment in time for publication. Queen’s is still listed as a member of the U15 Canada Association, but it’s unclear if they may be excluded from that group in future as their research income takes them just outside the top 15 country wide. Justyna Scezwyck-El Jassem, a history student and the president of PSAC 901, said she thinks the university putting too much on the plates of grad student workers is contributing to a decline in research income and quality. She says for grad student workers, both research and teaching assistant (TA) work is suffering due to the university spre...

Timberwolves get back on track with win over Lakers The mark of a great team: the Timberwolves have yet to allow one shortcoming to lead to another this season.Twenty-seven games into the season, Minnesota is the only team in the NBA yet to lose consecutive games after it followed Wednesday’s loss in Philadelphia with a 118-111 victory over the Lakers at Target Center. The Wolves played with their food to some degree Thursday, as the defense wasn’t as sharp as usual, particularly at home. That could be linked to Minnesota playing the night prior, but the same thing was true for the Lakers, who were sans LeBron James. For the second straight night, an opposing center had his way with Minnesota. One night after Joel Embiid scored 51 against the Wolves, Anthony Davis hit one mid-range after another to the tune of 31 points and eight rebounds. He was the primary reason the Lakers (15-14) — who have lost four straight games and five of their six contests since winning the In-Season Tournament — were able to stay within five with...

On the next possession, he had a better look from deep but passed it up and found Josh Ola-Joseph for an easier layup.Head coach Ben Johnson appreciated the smart play, pointing at his true freshman after the play.Christie’s assist, part of a career-high six, contributed to the Gophers’ hot start in an 80-63 win over Ball State at Williams Arena.“He’s got a really good feel,” Johnson said about Christie postgame. “You want to reward. Sometimes it doesn’t get the highlight or the recognition that it (deserves). Just that simple play, especially a guy that just made one, passing one up. It gives confidence to teammates, too.”The Gophers (9-3) extended their winning streak to four, while Ball State (8-4) lost its second consecutive.Minnesota, a 12-point favorite, didn’t put away Ball State for good until late in the game, des...
