One-pot Japanese curry chicken and rice recipe

By Kay Chun, The New York TimesUsually milder and sweeter than Indian curries, classic Japanese curry is a thick beef-and-vegetable stew served over rice. This recipe is not a traditional one, but rather an easy weeknight version, a one-pot meal featuring juicy chicken thighs, vegetables and rice. Instead of relying on store-bought or homemade instant curry roux, this dish relies on a few spices to mimic traditional Japanese curry flavors. Curry powder, ground nutmeg and Worcestershire sauce are combined and bloomed in butter to create the round and rich sauce. Onions, potatoes and carrots create the bulk of traditional Japanese curry, but sweet potatoes, cauliflower and peas would be great substitutions or additions. Serve the meal with any type of pickle you have on hand for a vinegary hit to contrast the rich curry.Yield: 4 servingsTotal time: 1 hourIngredients2 pounds bone-in, skin-on chicken thighs (about 6 large thighs)2 tablespoons canola oilSalt and black pepper3 tablespoons...Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies fire at vehicle, chase fleeing suspect during Denver rush hour

Possessed by Metal at the Whisky: Apparently it’s metal season in Los Angeles at the moment. In recent weeks, we’ve seen death metal titans Brujeria, Suffocation and Death to All (former members of Death), LA’s own Bitch, and Bay Area thrashers Vio-Lence. It’s enough to make your neck ache, and on Tuesday night the Bay was back in SoCal in the shape of Possessed. While they were a part of the Bay Area thrash scene of the ’80s, Possessed were on the more extreme end of the metal spectrum, crossing over into death metal territory. Some say Possessed was the first death metal band, though the lines are blurred so nothing is exact. The list of ex members is long, and in some cases distinguished. It includes celebrated Primus guitarist Larry LaLonde, as well as Fear Factory/Soulfly man Tony Campos. The current lineup includes Emilio Márquez (drums), Daniel Gonzalez and Claudeous Creame (guitars) and Robert Cardenas (bass). At least, we think it does. It seems ...Cool Easter Egg Stuffers Besides Candy the Kids and Grandkids Will Love

The classic “old grumpy grandpa” saying goes something like this: “Back in my day, we walked 15 miles to school in the snow! Barefoot! Uphill! Both ways! And we liked it that way!”For Eagle Peak Middle School eighth grade science teacher Paula Abajian, there is some truth in that saying for her, as she spent 13 days hiking through snow and ice to get access to a vehicle, to then drive or be driven to school.
